TEAM JAPAN official sportswear and items to be provided to the Japanese delegation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024
2024.04.17 PRESSASICS will manufacture and provide official sportswear, shoes, bags and other items to be worn and used by TEAM JAPAN to the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and Japanese Para Sports Association Japanese Paralympic Committee (JPC).
These items will be used mainly at the awards ceremony and in the Olympic and Paralympic village.
-Concept
“Balancing Performance and Sustainability."
ASICS' mission is to contribute to the mental and physical fitness of all people for future generations, and we believe that a healthy global environment is essential to achieving this mission. In preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024, aiming to be the most sustainable Games in history, ASICS hopes to think together with athletes about how to protect and sustain sports by providing items that are environmentally friendly while providing exceptional functionality.
-Items
“Sunrise Red" was adopted in addition to the base color, "TEAM JAPAN RED", which symbolizes TEAM JAPAN. The main item, the 'Podium Jacket', inherits the image of TEAM JAPAN from the previous Games by using “TEAM JAPAN RED” as a base, but added the gradient coloring of 'Sunrise Red'. The gradient color design expresses the strength and warmth of the sky turning red with the morning glow, inspired by the image of the "Paris sunrise".
The "Short Sleeve Top," a T-shirt to be worn at the competition sites and in the Olympic and Paralympic village, features a "YAGASURI graphic" incorporating "Yagasuri," a traditional Japanese auspicious pattern that represents determination and strength. By making multiple shirts from a single piece of fabric, a unified design is created when viewed as a whole, even though the placement of each pattern is different.
In line with the concept of "balancing performance and sustainability," we have also established three themes in development: "Conditioning," "Sustainability," and "Diversity”.
1. Conditioning
With a wide range of temperatures expected in this year's Games, we aimed to create a garment suitable for the athletes’ conditioning in preparation for competition. The Podium Jacket is equipped with ASICS's proprietary ACTIBREEZE technology, which was developed for the previous Games and has been well received, to reduce humidity inside the garment and provide excellent comfort. Based on the "ASICS Body Thermo Mapping" developed by the ASICS Institute of Sports Science, the jacket is designed to keep the inside of the garment comfortable by arranging mesh materials in strategic areas that open and close in response to movement, thereby achieving effective ventilation.
2. Sustainability
ASICS aims to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The Podium Jacket and Podium Pants have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 34% compared to the previous Games by adopting various measures, including the use of recycled materials and renewable energy. In addition, in order to transparently disclose the environmental impact of our products, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions (carbon footprint) emitted during the product life cycle (material procurement, manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal) for each item is printed.
The total carbon footprint calculated is 122 tons CO₂e*. In support of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024’s policy of "Climate Positive Games," ASICS has now purchased 200 tons of carbon credits that exceed the total calculated carbon footprint. The carbon credits were used to support Delta Blue Carbon, a mangrove restoration project in Pakistan with guaranteed reliability and quality.

*Calculated for: All JOC and JPC items, AOC (Australian Olympic Committee) podium jackets, podium pants, and shoes
3. Diversity
With an emphasis on "unity in diversity" we aimed to develop clothing that would allow individual athletes to shine, while being conscious of the fact that we are one team, transcending the boundaries of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the various competitions. In addition to a design that looks different from one piece of clothing to another while also providing a sense of unity, the "Podium Jacket" features a newly designed silhouette that fits people of various ages and genders, while the T-shirts are also available in big silhouettes to allow the freedom of styling.

Our commitment to environmental responsibility in the official sportswear for Japanese Olympic Committee, Japanese Paralympic Committee, and Australian Olympic Committee
ASICS recognizes the profound connection between sports and the environment. Since 1949, our purpose has been to help people achieve a sound mind in a sound body. To do this, we need a sound Earth to run on. With a deep commitment to climate action, ASICS aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
We are proud to introduce our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the official sportswear for Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), Japanese Paralympic Committee (JPC), and Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).
As a gold partner of the JOC, official sponsor of the JPC, and as the official performance footwear and apparel partner of the AOC, ASICS has taken substantial steps to reduce the carbon footprint of the official sportswear.
By incorporating recycled materials *1 for all JOC and JPC items and integrating renewable energy in factories manufacturing podium jackets, podium pants and shoes for JOC and JPC, we successfully reduced emissions by 34% compared to Tokyo 2020 for each set of JOC and JPC podium jacket and podium pants. For AOC, recycled materials were used *2 for podium jackets, podium pants, and shoes, and renewable energy was integrated in factories manufacturing shoes. We also conducted our best efforts to calculate the carbon footprint of the official sportswear. It is the first time for ASICS to calculate the carbon footprint of apparel items based on our carbon footprint calculation methodology. For JOC and JPC, we calculated all items, and for AOC, we calculated podium jackets, podium pants, and shoes. The total carbon footprint amounts to 122 tons CO₂e.
*1 Apparel and accessories: more than 70% of recycled material is used in main material
Shoes: more than 75% of recycled material is used in upper
*2 Apparel: more than 70% of recycled material is used in main material

ASICS has purchased 200t of carbon credits, in support of Delta Blue Carbon, a mangrove restoration project in Pakistan. We handpicked this initiative for its outstanding carbon storage capacity, robust certification, and positive impacts on local communities and biodiversity.
In our journey towards environmental responsibility, ASICS upholds the values of transparency and continuous improvement.
We recognize the challenges ahead and are resolute in our commitment to achieve a sound mind in a sound body. For this, we need a sound Earth.
Nestled in the Indus delta in Pakistan, the Delta Blue Carbon project focuses on protecting, restoring, and sustainably managing sensitive wetlands. Partnering with the local government of Sindh, this initiative spotlights the crucial role of mangroves, known for their efficient carbon storage – outperforming forests in this regard. Delta Blue Carbon also supports fisheries and coastal livelihoods and provides a critical habitat for
migratory shorebirds.
