ASICS Corporation announced today that it has concluded an agreement with The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to become a Tokyo 2020 Gold Partner in the category “Sporting Goods”.
ASICS will leverage this agreement to enable the company to continue its contribution to healthy and sustainable societies in line with its vision of creating quality lifestyles through intelligent sports technology.
The company will support the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Japanese national Olympic and Paralympic teams over the next six years as a Tokyo 2020 Gold Partner, the highest tier of the Tokyo 2020 domestic sponsorship programme.
ASICS was named as an acronym of the company’s founding philosophy, derived from the Roman poet Juvenal’s phrase anima sana in corpore sano (a sound mind in a sound body), which reflects ASICS founding commitment to promoting the healthy development of young people through sport. This shared vision to improve society through the education of youth through sport similarly underpins the modern Olympic and Paralympic movements.
The company’s previous formal associations with the Olympics were as an Official Sponsor of footwear for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games and as an Official Sponsor for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games. ASICS’ involvements with previous national Olympic and Paralympic teams extended to providing footwear and apparel to athletes and sporting associations.
As a leading Japanese supplier of sporting goods and services, ASICS will contribute to ensuring the Tokyo 2020 Games are an internationally resounding success.
