Microwave technology

ASICS SportStyle announces the new MICROFLUX™ sneaker, the first model with a midsole created by using microwave technology. 

Using this new microwave technology, it allows for midsoles to be created in approx. 30 seconds, with only approx. 50% of the energy consumption compared to what the standard process would require. 

ASICS measured and compared the energy use of two midsole production processes below.(based on the calculation method of Life Cycle Assessment)

     1) processes using microwave technology 

     2) processes using traditional compression molding technology 

The energy use of production processes using microwave technology was around 50% (in kwh per part) less compared to the production processes using compression molding technology.

One of the reasons is because the microwave technology requires no pressing process which uses a lot of heat and energy.
