reducing the impact of our operations

As well as integrating sustainability considerations in the design of our products, we are also committed to reducing environmental impacts throughout the other stages of their life cycle. These include operations at our business locations, manufacturing processes, the distribution and packaging of our products, and our retail stores.

Environmental management systems

The ASICS Group has been implementing an environmental management system since 2000. All of our operations are committed to improving their environmental performance continuously according to the PDCA (‘plan-do-check-act’) principle. Several Group members are ISO 14001 certified and we are continuously expanding the ISO 14001 scope where applicable.

Every ASICS global location has to meet the requirements of our group-wide environmental management system. These include global targets on priority subjects and regularly reporting environmental performance to ASICS Headquarters.

reducing carbon emissions

ASICS has been measuring and reducing CO2 emissions from our business locations in Japan since 2007, and from all global operations since 2011. This includes not only our offices and distribution centers but also our retail stores, the way we transport products and materials, and business travel.

We are committed to continuously reducing our overall CO2 emissions. We do this in several ways, including:

  • continuous daily energy saving
  • adopting energy efficient building design and equipment
  • sourcing renewable energy for facilities, equipment and vehicles where possible
  • optimizing our distribution network.

Sustainable retail

ASICS’ own retail operations are a fast-growing part of our business. To improve the sustainability of our retail stores, we look how we can use technology to improve energy efficiency, material efficiency and safety in our store design and store operations.

Our Retail Sustainability Guideline sets out sustainability priority areas for retail store design and operations. These include initiatives such as using energy-efficient LED lighting, introducing low VOC and recycled flooring materials, and better waste management.
